Elizabeth
Haub Prize for Environmental Law
Since 1973 ICEL, together with the Free University of Brussels, has awarded
this prize. It may be awarded not only for a positive contribution to the
development and promotion of environmental law in a general way, but for
an initiative leading to a new concept or idea in the field of environmental
law.
The Elizabeth Haub Prize for Environmental Diplomacy, was established by ICEL and Pace University (USA) in 1998. It is awarded for a particular practical accomplishment in a specific instance or a new idea or diplomatic initiative, leading to progress in the field of international environmental law and policy.
See below for a list of all past Laureates of both awards.
***
ICEL is profoundly indebted to the Karl-Schmitz-Scholl Foundation in Germany and the Elizabeth Haub Foundations for Environmental Law and Policy in the United States and Canada, who without their support would not have been possible to direct its activities so effectively.
Recipients of the Elizabeth Haub Prizes are awarded a solid gold medal (as depicted above) and a diploma. During the formal award ceremonies which are hosted by the Universities that cosponsor the respective Prize, it is customary that the laureate holds a presentation on the subject of his choice. The proceedings of the award ceremonies and the laureate’s presentations are reprinted in Environmental Policy and Law.
